Insurers Starting To Pay For Digital Content
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Alice Hill)
Michael Santo of RealTechNews writes: The word, of course, is starting. Microsoft Breeds A 'Fowl' Vista
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Alice Hill)
Michael Santo of RealTechNews writes: Following in the footsteps of Chevrolet and its poor Nova sales in Latin America (Nova means "it doesn't go" in Spanish), Microsoft has given the country of Latvia some yuks with the name Vista. It can either mean 'fowl,' or it can have the slang meaning of a 'frumpy woman' in Latvian…. Links for 'Microsoft Breeds A 'Fowl' Vista'

Poplar DNA Code Cracked - New Possibilities For Sustainable Energy
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Lockergnome)
Sustainable or renewable energy - in the form of bio-ethanol, for example - can be produced for us by trees. The influence trees have on our daily life is enormous. Forests cover 30% of the world's land area, accommodate two thirds of life on earth, and are responsible for 90% of the biomass on solid ground. Now, an international consortium, which includes researchers from the Flanders Interuniversity Institute for Biotechnology (VIB) at Ghent University, has succeeded in unraveling the first tree genome - that of the poplar. Moreover, their research indicates that the poplar has about 45,000 genes. This knowledge… Links for 'Poplar DNA Code Cracked - New Possibilities For Sustainable Energy'

Stratospheric Injections Could Help Cool Earth, Computer Model Shows
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Lockergnome)
A two-pronged approach to stabilizing climate, with cuts in greenhouse gas emissions as well as injections of climate-cooling sulfates, could prove more effective than either approach used separately. This is the finding of a new study by Tom Wigley of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), published in the September 14 issue of Science. Wigley calculates the impact of injecting sulfate particles, or aerosols, every one to four years into the stratosphere in amounts equal to those lofted by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Pintabuto in 1991. If found to be environmentally and technologically viable, such injections could provide… Links for 'Stratospheric Injections Could Help Cool Earth, Computer Model Shows'

WebCam Central
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Warped.info)
It has been said that within the next few years, a person will not be able to move anywhere on this planet without having their every move tracked on a camera of some sort. That is pretty frightening in one way; Big Brother watching over us. But some of those cameras most likely will be ones that private companies and individuals have set up to promote and publicize something, like a business or an attraction. To get a preview of what some of those sites could be like, check out our Warped site…. Big Brother, surveillance, Warp-o-Meter, Warped.info, WebCam Central Links for 'WebCam Central'

The "S" In TSA Stands For... ?
rss_feedback@lockergnome.com (Alice Hill)
Michael Santo of RealTechNews writes: The TSA today said the personal data of 1,195 former employees may have been exposed as one of their contractors mailed the data to the wrong addresses. Admittedly, not the same as sending it to say, a spammer in Nigeria, but still…. Links for 'The "S" In TSA Stands For… ?'
